Bergschrund. From this point on the Fang Glacier searches its path down the slopes of Mt. Erebus and into the sea, some 3000 vertical metres below. Even in these upper ranges of the glacier, a deep gap forms between ice and the surrounding rock, a so called “Bergschrund”. It witnesses the restlessness of this ever moving stream of ice.
