The calm before the storm. Even though this cloud looks stunningly beautiful, it is a messenger of bad news for the scientists on Erebus’ summit plateau camp. Such a cloud often develops into a so called “lenticular” cloud after only a few minutes, which typically is the precursor of a powerful Antarctic storm approaching the mountain.
