During the storms, strangely shaped ice sculptures form, so called “Sastrugi”, which are typically anvil shaped sharp ridges of ice. On places like this one, the storm abraded several centimetres of snow from the ground. Only snow that was previously compressed by footprints outlasted the blasting, remaining as a positive relief.
